Local Companies Named to ‘World’s 50 Most Innovative’ List

Telecom manufacturing giant Huawei and fashion technology startup rewardStyle were both recognized on the annual Fast Company list.

Two companies with ties to the Dallas area have made the Fast Company “World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies” list for 2017. The American business magazine chooses the companies based on the impacts they make in the world.

Telecom manufacturing giant Huawei, whose North American headquarters is in Plano, and Dallas-based fashion technology startup rewardStyle, were both ranked among others around the world for the influence they have within their sectors.

Headquartered in Shenzhen, China, Huawei ranked No. 15 on the list. Last summer, it vowed to knock out Apple and Samsung to become the globe’s top smartphone maker.

Recently, Huawei announced the new Mate 9, the first smartphone to be embedded with Amazon’s Alexa assistant.

“When we announced four years ago that we wanted to sell phones, people told us we were crazy. When we said we wanted to sell 100 million phones, they told us we were crazy,” Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group, told Fast Company in November. “We are going to take [Apple] step-by-step, innovation-by-innovation.”

RewardStyle, placed No. 28 on the list this year. The platform helps fashion bloggers and social media influencers monetize their posts through affiliate links and gives retailers another point of access with consumers.

The Instagram-optimized LiketoKnow.it is the company’s metrics-generating content management system, which gives a look into the purchasing behavior of an influencer’s followers. The company is looking to expand its offerings to Snapchat and Pinterest next.

“If [brands] want someone who drives a high volume of sales in accessories from $50 to $100 and lives in the Midwest, we can [connect them with] that person,” rewardStyle founder Amber Venz Box told Fast Company.
