Merrilee Kick has made her mark in a male-dominated industry and was recently honored as one of 14 “Winning Women” at the EY conference in Palm Springs, Calif., last week.

Kick, president and CEO of Southern Champion/BuzzBallz LLC, founded one of the nation’s only woman-owned distilleries and wineries in the U.S., D Magazine reported

Southern Champion’s signature product is called BuzzBallz. BuzzBallz drinks are pre-mixed cocktails made with rum, vodka, tequila, or wine, packaged in colorful, ball-like containers.

The EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women program is a national competition and executive education initiative.

Kick, a former Plano West High School teacher, was also a finalist in EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2016 program for the Southwest region. She has plans to expand her business internationally next year.
